Play Group

At Kare Educational Centre our program for 1 Year to 3 Year old’s focuses on preparing the children for their future in the cycle one Montessori classroom. The room is set up in a similar manner to the other rooms with activities displayed and laid out in the Montessori way, encouraging the children to decide and independently choose what they would like to do.

PP1 and PP2

At Kare Educational Centre, our PP1 and PP2 programs prepare children for primary school through a balanced mix of play, academics and creativity, guided by the Montessori curriculum.

The areas of study in PP1 and PP2 are as follows:

Practical Life

Practical life materials and exercises assist children to refine, develop and coordinate their movement. Children take part in ‘everyday’ activities such as pouring, transferring, and sorting activities as well as food preparation, care of self (personal hygiene, dressing activities, grace and courtesy) and care of the environment (looking after the classroom, looking after the garden and pets).

Sensorial

The sensorial materials provide a range of activities and exercises for children to experience attributes such as size, color, shape, dimension, weight, texture, sound and scent. These materials foster a sense of awareness of the environment around them. Furthermore it also enables the child to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions.

Mathematics

In this area, materials are provided to show concepts such as numerical recognition, place value, quantities, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Through working with these materials children are able to internalize the concepts of numbers, quantities, symbols, sequences and operations.

Language

Montessori language materials provide experiences to develop the use of a writing instrument and the basic skills of reading a written language. Children are encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through verbal and written communication. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters (loose alphabet letters) and various presentations, allowing children to link sounds and symbols.

Language is developed through storytelling, questioning and class discussions.

The teacher presents new concepts to the students and allows the children to explore these concepts independently, and the teacher guides them until the concepts are ingrained into the child’s mind.

There is a book corner in a Montessori classroom, and students can access these books at any time.

Cultural

The Montessori classroom also includes other materials and resources to cover cultural subjects, such as geography, science, biology, music, history, movement and art. Through presentation of activities within the cultural area, children are encouraged to respect cultural diversity, respect their history, start learning some science, explore geography and the world around them and the world at large. They also learn about human bodies, explore animal as well as plant life.

So in Montessori, subjects are introduced into the curriculum quite early, in a practical way, which makes it easier for the children to grasp and explore by themselves.

Grace and Courtesy

Respectful relationships are the cornerstone of a Montessori education as we guide the children to independently resolve conflict and make choices that benefit themselves and their classroom community. Grace and Courtesy lessons form part of everyday Montessori education as the children care for materials, respect a fellow student’s work and space, make polite requests and learn social etiquette. To further support social and emotional learning at KEC, we offer the Kare 7 Pillars that are offered to all the students at Kare Educational.
